Key Achievements to Date
- Signed a deed of agreement in 2000 with Carmarthenshire County Council and Sustrans (The
National Cycle charity who have constructed a cycle way along the former track bed) for the support of
the project. - Completed a feasibility study prepared by WS Atkins consultants Ltd.
- Secured planning permission for change of use, track laying and erection of a dual purpose
locomotive shed/heritage centre and new entrance. - Acquired initial rolling stock including a two car Class 117 diesel multiple unit (DMU), a spare class
107 DMU vehicle, a Sentinel diesel shunter, a tank wagon and an Avonside 0-4-0 saddle tank steam
engine (“Desmond”) all of which were stored by kind permission of D.S.D.C. Llangennech, Near
Llanelli. - Acquired two wooden 1880’s built passenger carriages for long term restoration.
- Purchased approx. 12 acres of land for our operating base and one mile of running line.
- Commenced infrastructure work on site such as fencing, levelling and draining and the construction
of a 100 metre x 20 metre wild life pond. - Constructed loco shed/heritage centre.
- Transported all but one of our items of rolling stock to the Cynheidre site.
- Received funding in the form of a HLF grant for the restoration of our Avonside 0-4-0 saddle tank
steam engine (“Desmond”).
